Monday 22nd September – Windsurf *** River Stour at Wrabness –
sunny periods.
Foil – 18.14 knot max, 16.82 knot ave., 10.01 knot hour, 15.04 knot
mile, 51.24 km., 13.14 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt
6.50.
With the wind in the north and high tide just after one it was looking good
for the River Stour at Wrabness, having loaded up the van we left
Felixstowe at nine after a quick breakfast, Mag even had time to do her
sunrise prom walk! With only a moderate breeze forecast I only took three
sails a 5.75, 6.50 and 7.5 arriving and parking easily at Wall Lane just
before ten, I emptied the van so Mag could have her breakfast while I
checked the conditions, loads of water and enough breeze for me to go with
my 6.5 and I used my lightweight foil board for the second time! Launching
at 10.50 I was still up and flying, the best wind looked to be over in
Holbrook Bay so I beat down the river and sailed most of the session doing
long three mile runs down towards Parkestone Quay in lovely smooth water,
sadly the wind up and down but I pretty much had that whole section of the
Stour to myself as the few wingers that launched from Bradfield stayed down
that way. It wa snice to be back on the Stour but have had better sessions,
my speeds were a little disappointing but then again it was not that windy,
still managing to sail over 30 miles. With the wind easing I was slowly
heading back when the wind returned so I did two runs down to past
Bradfield when everyone else had gone in! Getting knackered I decided to
call it a day and joined Mag in the van for lunch and her about her day?
She had her usual walk collecting apples and blackberries and was watching
loads of birds in the quiet lane with next to no cars here today! After
packing up we drove and parked near Alton water for a quick walk to see the
lovely highland cattle:)
